abandoned amusement park

Design Statement

My project is the abandoned amusement park. Amusement parks have always been places that bring people entertainment and are childlike. However, abandoned amusement parks have a scary, deserted feel and are often featured in horror films. Also, There are so many abandoned theme parks worldwide that take up a lot of land. According to my research, most of the abandonment of amusement parks is due to a lack of regular maintenance, corrosion, and destruction after natural disasters. These causes often lead to problems that endanger human safety, and many examples exist throughout history.

In my design, I set each outfit as a different facility while adding the more obvious elements of the ride. Therefore, my silhouettes will be more irregular and interesting. Also, to make them look more like a combination of humans and facilities, I will use a lot of wires, 3d printed materials, and filling to create three-dimensional silhouettes. In addition, I will try to lean the designs and prototypes towards the darker and scarier to fit in more with my theme by using the ashes of burning. Furthermore, I will try to focus on their defeated and broken by highlighting the rusty on the garments.

Therefore, I aim to anthropomorphize the abandoned amusement park and make people aware of the serious environmental and safety concerns associated with abandoned amusement parks. When these rides become humans, the wounds and destruction can make their dangers more visible. Not only that, but I want to raise awareness that abandoned amusement parks are another level of waste of resources. By making their expressions and unique, I want to show that they want to be noticed again, to bring joy and usefulness to people again, rather than just "lying on the ground," taking up land and endangering the natural environment. This will make people realise that even if these abandoned amusement parks are no longer rebuilt, people can use these non-renewable metal resources in other ways.
