Drowning End,

This project delves into the profound themes of despair and helplessness through the metaphor of drowning. With an alarming 350,000 drowning fatalities annually, particularly among children under 15, this issue demands urgent attention. My own experience of drowning—characterized by shock, entrapment, and the overwhelming sensation of impending doom—serves as the emotional foundation for this exploration.

In my work, I will create the shape of ‘frozen water’ using thermoplastic clay to embody the suffocating experience of being submerged. The flowing silhouette captures the softness and beauty of water while simultaneously illustrating the constraints it can impose on the body. This duality reflects the unsettling nature of drowning—the contrast between the allure of water and its potential for danger.

Through my designs, I aim to evoke the sensations of suffocation, disorientation, and fear that accompany drowning, inviting viewers to engage with these visceral emotions. By immersing them in this experience, I hope to foster a deeper understanding of the desperation and seriousness surrounding drowning, ultimately raising awareness about water safety and the fragility of life.
